Erhielt zahlreiche nationale und internationale Designpreise, u.a in 2007 Honourable Royal Designer for Industry der RSA - Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce, London . Vorsitzender des Good Design Award in Japan zwischen 2010 und 2014. Aktuell halt er eine Professur am Institut fur Integriertes Design an der Tama Art Universit in Tokyo und arbeitet als Vorsitzender des Japan Folk Craft Museums.
